2026 Hyundai Palisade Questions Answered: Towing, Trims, Hybrid, and More

The all-new 2026 Hyundai Palisade is one of the more talked-about vehicles in the full-size SUV segment this year, and that generates a lot of questions from buyers who want to know what's actually changed, what each trim delivers, and whether it's the right fit for the way they drive in and around Grande Prairie. From hauling capacity on Highway 43 to whether the hybrid makes sense in an Alberta winter, the answers are worth spelling out clearly.

Everything below is verified against official Hyundai Canada documentation. No guesswork.

Is the 2026 Palisade Completely New, or Just Updated?

Completely new. The 2026 Palisade is a ground-up redesign — not a refresh of the outgoing model. The body is 65 mm longer overall, the wheelbase has grown by 70 mm, and both powertrains are new. The 3.5L V6 is a newly developed Lambda III engine, and the 2.5L Turbo Hybrid is the first hybrid powertrain ever offered in the Palisade. The interior has been redesigned from scratch, with a new platform, new safety architecture, and new technology features throughout.

What Powertrains Are Available?

Two options:

3.5L V6 (ICE): Produces 287 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission with HTRAC AWD standard. Towing capacity is 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg). Available on the Preferred Trend, XRT PRO, and Ultimate Calligraphy trims.

2.5L Turbo Hybrid: Produces 329 combined horsepower and 339 lb-ft of combined torque. Connected to a 6-speed automatic transmission with HTRAC AWD. NRCan-rated at 8.3 L/100 km city, 7.9 L/100 km highway, and 8.1 L/100 km combined. Towing capacity is 4,000 lbs (1,814 kg). Standard on the Luxury trim, optional on the Ultimate Calligraphy.

Does the Hybrid Work Well in Cold Alberta Winters?

The hybrid powertrain includes a Stay Mode function that runs the climate control and infotainment while parked without running the gas engine continuously — useful for warming the vehicle in the morning. Cold-weather performance is supported by HTRAC AWD standard on all hybrid trims, along with heated seats across all rows, a heated steering wheel, and a heated windshield and front washer nozzles standard across the lineup. The PTC (positive temperature coefficient) heater assists with cabin warmth at low ambient temperatures.

How Much Can It Tow?

The V6 trims tow 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg) with trailer brakes. The hybrid trims tow 4,000 lbs (1,814 kg) with trailer brakes. Tow Mode is included on both powertrains and adjusts the transmission's shift pattern to hold gears longer and reduce shift frequency while towing. A factory-integrated tow hitch is standard on the XRT PRO, Luxury, and Ultimate Calligraphy trims. Trailer Sway Control and Crosswind Stability Control are standard across all variants.

For buyers in the Grande Prairie area who regularly haul campers, quads, boats, or utility trailers, the V6 gives the higher towing ceiling. The XRT PRO is the strongest choice for buyers who want towing combined with the off-road package.

What Are the Four Trims?

Preferred Trend: 3.5L V6, 8-passenger bench seating, dual 12.3-inch displays, HTRAC AWD, wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, 7x USB-C ports, 10 airbags, full standard ADAS suite. Entry trim.

XRT PRO: 3.5L V6, 7-passenger captain's chairs, 212 mm ground clearance (vs. 187 mm standard), all-terrain Continental tires, electronic rear limited-slip differential, XRT Off-road Mode, factory tow hitch with recovery hooks, Bose 14-speaker audio, Surround View Monitor, Blind View Monitor, HDA 1. Off-road-focused.

Luxury: 2.5L Turbo Hybrid standard, 7 or 8-passenger, leather seating, heated third row, 4-way power third-row seats, ventilated front seats, Bose 14-speaker audio, factory tow hitch, HDA 1. Efficiency-focused.

Ultimate Calligraphy: 3.5L V6 standard, 2.5L Turbo Hybrid optional. 7-passenger with Nappa leather, Relaxation seats for rows 1 and 2, Head-Up Display, built-in dual-channel dashcam, digital rearview mirror, HDA 2, Remote Smart Parking Assist, dual-pane sunroof, 21-inch wheels. Top trim.

How Much Cargo Space Is There?

  • Behind the third row: 540 L
  • Second and third row folded: 1,310 L
  • All rows folded: 2,455 L

The larger cargo numbers compared to the outgoing generation come directly from the 65 mm longer body and 70 mm longer wheelbase — both of which extended the rear cabin.

How Many Passengers Does It Seat?

Up to eight on the Preferred Trend and Luxury trims, which use bench seating in the second row (2-3-3). The XRT PRO and Ultimate Calligraphy come standard with 7-passenger captain's chair configurations (2-2-3). The Luxury trim can also be configured in 7-passenger with captain's chairs as an option. One-touch tilt-and-slide on captain's chair configurations makes third-row access easier.

What Safety Features Come Standard?

Every 2026 Palisade includes 10 airbags — including third-row seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters, a new addition for this generation. Standard ADAS on all trims: Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (car/pedestrian/cyclist/junction turning/direct oncoming), Lane Following Assist 2, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Assist, Rear Occupant Alert, and High Beam Assist.
